Fuel Treatment Prescription

DHC developed a fuel treatment prescription for an area of high hazard interface fuels adjacent to the Manning Park Resort. Over the last number of years mountain pine beetle, and more recently spruce beetle, have had a noticeable impact on tree stands in the Park, resulting in increased mortality.  Many of these trees have since fallen which has increased the amount of ground fuel, while some remain standing as ladder fuel. Field work was performed to collect prescription and timber volume data, a site plan was developed to meet a range of objectives including habitat, biodiversity, recreation, forest health, fuel reduction and fire management. The CFIS model was used to project pre- and post- treatment fire behavior.
