CAMPBELL RIVER URBAN FOREST MANAGEMENT STRATEGY
DESCRIPTION: Inventory Planning and Implementation
CLIENT: City of Campbell River
Diamond Head prepared the urban forest management plan for Campbell River, defining 20-year strategic objectives for the urban forest and best management practices for management of trees on public and private land.
A key aspect of this project was consultation with community members and stakeholders to: understand specific issues impacting Campbell River’s urban forest today; to develop a shared vision; and to identify community-supported targets for future canopy cover and management.
Community engagement followed the IAP2 Public Participation Spectrum with engagement targeted at the ‘Involve’ level. Several consultation techniques were applied including participatory mapping, "dotmocracy" and online surveys. Outcomes of the community consultation were clearly reflected in Campbell River’s urban forest management plan.
