north vancouver invasive plant inventory + Update

Inventory, Strategy, Treatment and Removal
City of North Vancouver
2011 - 2015

In 2011 Diamond Head conducted a baseline invasive plant survey and spatial analysis for all City owned parkland and green spaces. Data analysis directed development of a framework for a cost-effective invasive plant management program. Habitat restoration guidelines were provided. In 2015 Diamond Head carried out an update to the 2011 baseline inventory.

This provided the City with a measure of success for their invasive plant control and restoration efforts. The results were impressive; there was a 90% reduction in giant hogweed and a 70% reduction in knotweed since 2011. The inventory also assessed changes in abundance and distribution of unmanaged invasive plant species. Newly arrived invasive species and illegal green waste dumping sites were documented.
