NORTH VANcouver WILDFIRE Assessments
Development Permit Area Wildfire Assessments
District of North Vancouver
2010 - Ongoing
In 2007, the District of North Vancouver developed a Wildfire Hazard Development Permit Area to help reduce the risk to people, property and the District’s forests and ecosystems from wildfire hazards. A Wildfire Hazard Report is required when any new building or structure requiring a development permit occurs on identified Wildfire Hazard Development Permit Areas. In response to Development Permit requirements, Diamond Head works with residential owners and developers throughout the district to provide these assessments. The wildfire threat is assessed and development plans are reviewed to ensure they are in compliance with District standards. Recommendations are made for tree management, building materials and construction activities, ensuring that newly created interface areas have effective defensible space and adequate suppression resources.
