HORSESHOE DAM REMEDIATION
Environmental Monitoring + Habitat Compensation
2009 - 2010
Diamond Head was hired to perform site review and planning, amphibian and fish salvage, environmental monitoring and compensation work associated with the remediation of Horseshoe Dam, east of Powell River. Construction of a new spillway was proposed to reinforce the dam, which had deteriorated. This work required impacts to aquatic and terrestrial resources including species at risk. Mitigation strategies included an amphibian and fish salvage, erosion and sediment control, dewatering, silt booms and fish exclusion fencing. Diamond Head also designed and monitored the habitat compensation required by the Fisheries Act which included the construction of a new pool and stream complex.
