GARDEN CITY LANDS Inventory and Assessment

Biophysical Inventory + Environmental Assessment
City of Richmond
2013

The Garden City Lands (GCL) is a unique quarter section parcel of land in the heart of Richmond, located in the Agricultural Land Reserve. It contains a remnant bog ecosystem and is a widely-used public open space. The City hired Diamond Head to complete a  biophysical inventory and assessment of the site. As a critical first step, the Diamond Head team identified important environmental values and risks to help inform options for sustainable land use and development and to help guide conceptual planning. Recommendations for land uses (conservation, agriculture, recreation, facilities) and green infrastructure were developed based on the assessment. Diamond Head was also retained to provide technical advice in subsequent design stages of the project to ensure important values were integrated into the project.
