Calgary Street Tree Landscape Vision

Community Street Tree Vision
City of Calgary
2016 - ongoing

Envisioned as a 'city of trees' in the early days of city planning, Calgary's commitment to fostering an urban forest - evident in its tree lined streets, community parks and protected natural areas -is a remarkable achievement. However, recent stress from extreme weather has threatened the viability of the urban forest, and an early snow storm in 2014 resulted in damage to as much as 50% of Calgary's public trees.

Diamond Head is working with the City over three years to develop tree landscape visions for 75 communities. The project involves analysis of tree inventory, health, guidelines and planting opportunities in streets and parks towards tree design plans and recommendations specific to each community. In addition, high level recommendations are being made for entrance features, primary routes, individual parks and landscape redesign opportunities.
