best management practices for fire management

Best Management Practices Guidance Documents
Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resources Operations, Wildfire Management Branch

Diamond Head is developing five Best Management Practices (BMPs) Guides for fire management for industry sectors in BC. These documents will assist sector professionals in understanding how to meet their obligations under British Columbia's Wildfire Act and Regulation. Diamond Head is working collaboratively with the Wildfire Management Branch and stakeholders to develop documents that guide preferred wildfire management planning outcomes for infrastructure and operations on the landscape. The project involves developing specific BMPs for wildfire prevention, response planning, risk assessment, and risk mitigation at multiple scales. The five documents specifically address the following topics:

>   oil and gas development;
>   commercial operations;
>   energy and mines;
>   wildlife habitat and species at risk; and
>   community watersheds.
